You know I'm pissed right?
I can't catch a break with this crazy hair of mine. When I started my blog I wrote about my first hair disaster in July (click here) which with more cutting and daily maintenance, its manageable. But now we have a bigger problem..... let me paint the picture for you.
November was my birthday month, I took a trip to LA with some friends and wanted a new look. I read a lot about protective styles and sew-ins seemed like a good choice. I already had curly extensions that matched the texture of my hair so I didn't have to put heat on my hair. The hair stylist in question (which for professional reasons I will not name) was someone I have worked with before. Actually using the same hair and I wanted the same style so I thought she was the perfect choice. WRONG KP. You were WRONG.
This stylist makes house calls so she came to my house and started working on my hair. She braided all my hair in less than 30 minutes, sewed the hair in for another 30-45 minutes and then was out the door. Fastest job ever, I was happy about that, but the pain was a little too much. I haven;t braided my hair in a while so I thought the pain was just from the tension, I put some oils in my scalp and kept moving.
The day after my birthday, Doomsday.
My birthday in LA and NY was a success and I was recovering from a hangover all day. I had this bad headache and pain in my head that I couldn't shake. I took medicine(which i never do) and still nothing. Finally I had my boyfriend take a look at the pain in my hair that was bothering me and he found redness, pus and some dried blood. I freaked out! Not another hair diaster! Not again! I immediately grabbed scissors and he helped me take all the weave and braids out so I could see what was going on. It was bad you guys, my skin was so tender and sore I couldn't even touch it. I just knew my hair was going to fall out but I refuse to take it out myself. I rubbed some Neosporin on the scabs and left it alone for a few days to heal.
The next couple of days were itchy, I knew I was scratching my head in my sleep and I couldn't even stop it, scabs were forming, then they would peel and take the hair with it. My breaking point was when I finally washed my hair, a scab started to peel, I took it off and there was basically a hole in my head filled with blood. I cried my eyes out for hours, I didn't know what to do, I had bookings with hair companies the next month, I had work, shoots, I can't walk around with a huge bald patch in the front of my head!
I wish I could tell you all how I fixed the problem and everything is better now but its only been three weeks and my scalp is still recovering. I rub Jamaican Castor Oil on my scalp every night, which I think has helped speed up the recovery process, there is some hair starting to grow back. Thank god my natural hair and edges are thick so I have been able to cover it up, just no ponytails for a while.
You have questions, I know.
- So the stylist was notified ( I sent her the same pictures) and I was told my scalp was probably too dry (insert side eye emoji). She did make me a wig free of charge from the hair so I can have more hair style options while it grows back. Still doesn't change the fact that I'm bald and I will never go back to her again.
- My hair campaigns were still a success, nobody knew of my patch except me and the stylist on set who kept it confifential (props to you boo!).
Also any tips on how to speed this hair growing process up are encouraged and welcomed!
