Hey KP! WhatChaDoing? Part 2
So I decided to keep this "Hey KP! WhatChaDoing" title because as a new blogger one of the biggest challenges are time management. Especially when you are a blogger, model, and still have two jobs. Also instead of uploading a million post about what I am doing every day of my life, a quick summary of the cool stuff will do. So lets get to it!
As you all know in July I went through an intense hair disaster. My curls were damaged. Freaking out because fashion week was so close, I decided to get a protective style(braids) and kept them in for about a month. I watched my hair very closely and kept it moisturized hoping to speed up the growth process. I either had to let the damaged hair grow out or cut everything and start over. The result: My hair grew! I still have the damaged curls but with the help of my favorite salon, H2 salon in Brooklyn, they taught me how to properly roller set the damaged curls and let my hair shine!
Speaking of fashion week, New York Fashion Week and me have a love hate relationship. I love fashion, I love the beautiful people, but it hates me ...well it hates my body type. But I have learn to accept it honestly. I am not stick thin and never will I want to be. I love my body. I only focus on toning and gaining strength. I refuse to change who I am to suit them because you will end up hating yourself in the end. Fashion week also seems to lack diversity majority of the time and I am very diverse.. melanin for days! I did go on a few of the castings and some commercial auditions but for the most part I know what kind of model I am and want to be, runway isn't really me. On the bright side I have some really awesome things lined up and I am very excited for fall!
During fashion week I had the chance to attend some awesome events. I went to Tommy Pier, which was a collaboration with designer Tommy Hilfiger and supermodel GiGi Hadid on her new collection. It was basically a carnival replica and it was pretty cool. Her designs with Tommy Hilfiger are very sailor inspired but really cute for the fall. The same day I also attended the Essence Street Style Festival in Brooklyn. I was really excited to attend this year because I was dying to go last year. So many beautiful African American women coming together to represent their personal style. So many curly Afros! I was in love. Kelly Rowland was also there and honored as a style influencer. While there I also met model Afiya Bennett who was on Naomi Campbell's modeling show The Face and has had an amazing career since. Definitely a beautiful day.
